Kiwanis Updates

I apologize for the untimely updates of the website. With the passing of our secretary, Heather Chilvers, I volunteered to take over her position. Heather was very dedicated and organized and will be big shoes to fill. Erin Lauters will take my Board of Directors position. I am finally up-to-date on minutes and monthly reports, etc.

On a brighter note, our Peanut Day was a big success! We sold all of the 250 boxes we originally ordered plus 20 more that we borrowed from the Norfolk Club. We raised $2480! With this money, we are sponsoring a child through the Professional Partners Christmas Wish Program. Dawnn Tucker's Committee is also implementing a "Literacy for our Little Ones" project to see that every child under the age of 5 has a book to call their own. They plan to distribute the books with a storytime for children and an informational meeting for the parents / guardians on why it is important for children to be read to at an early age.

We also had our Official Charter Banquet this last Sunday! It was very nice. Sue Warneke and Erin Lauters did a great job organizing it, and it was sad that neither of them were able to attend to see their work of progress. 17 members and 40 some guests were present to enjoy the catering and presentations.

Keep up to date with Kiwanis news in the Pierce Leader. Khris Buettner has been writing a weekly column with current information on our club.

Sad News

Email from Pam Flesner:

"We have some very sad news. Heather Chilvers passed away today. She was taken to the hospital last week on Wednesday and it was very serious internal problems that caused her body to just shut down.

Her funeral will be held on Friday at 2:00 pm at the UCC church in Pierce.

Connie and I spoke and thought we would take a collection on Thursday at the meeting and give a donation in Heather's name to the Pierce Library. Heather was very active this past summer with the library reading program and other activities.

Please feel free to call me at 329-4991 or 329-6941 if you have suggestions or questions."

Speakers Line-Up

Sue Warneke & Erin Lauters have been busy lining up speakers for our meetings. Check out our Calendar of Events to view upcoming speakers. The Legion has graciously agreed to provide the speaker's meal free of charge, and we will award the speaker with a special Kiwanis pen as a token of our appreciation for speaking.
